The Australia’s $95 billion dollar tourism industry believes that they can keep the nation’s economy firing even while the manufacturing and mining industry are declining. According to the words of chief executive of Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF), Ken Morrison, the tourism can fill the gap in the economy which had occurred due to the gradual decline in mining's and manufacturing's industry. Tourism is Australia’s largest service export which employs 514,000 Australians in this sector. There are around 283,000 tourism businesses nationwide which has lots of opportunity to develop in Asia’s tourism industry and to do much more. With the rise of Asian middle class and their susceptibility to travel to Australia has represented enormous economic activity. Australia is not only the one in the world who is trying to get that tourist dollar, in fact, there are many others too. According to the new research, TTF claims that, tourism employs 99,000 in retail, 137,700 workers in cafes and restaurants, and 70,500 in the accommodation sector. The point is that, most of the tourism jobs are in Queensland and Tasmania. The TTF is calling for $10m a year in support of government to support and strengthen the international business events in Australia and an additional of $5m to attract international sporting events.
