  • Immigrants in Canada were found to be at higher educational levels than the US immigrants. 
  • 38% of male employees holding post graduation degree are migrants in Canada. 23 percent of Canadians are born overseas, but 49% of them are doctorate holders and 40% of them have master’s degree.
  • Many immigrants move to a foreign country to seek a job from an employer in a reputed firm, but their qualification or degree may not be equivalent to foreign degree. Hence, Canada recruits skilled immigrants based on their degree and qualification suitable to work in the country.
  • Around 56% of immigrants from 2001 to 2006 who entered Canada held a college degree, which is a spike increase against 28% who entered with a degree before 2001.
  • The setting up of standards or recognition of professional credentials is not under the control of Canada Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) or federal government's and hence they are not determined by CIC or federal laws. But the CIC has launched the Foreign Credentials Referral Office to assist immigrants in Canada.
