Report says that Gisborne is ideal for ICT sector 0


A recently published report stated that Gisborne is the land of opportunities for ICT sector. Russell Ronald, Chairman of Tairawhiti Computer Hub Trust, said that the in-depth report had confirmed the aspects which he and his fellow “Gizzy geeks” knew already. He said that abundant opportunities are present in the ICT sector, and there is an urgent need to encourage the youth to enhance their skills.

According to the report of New Zealand Information and Communications Technology Sectors – 2013, the ICT sector contributes 5 percent to the country’s GDP. The report also stated about increased investment, good growth of employment, higher investment in ICT firms, rapid growth in computer exports and demand for ICT skills in the market.

Mr Holland said that ICT industry is good to based in a place like Gisborne, which is only an hour away from the International Airport of Auckland. International or national customers can be served well with excellent technology infrastructure in Gisborne. He said that the main resource for the ICT sector was knowledge and Gisborne had many entrepreneurs with excellent ideas and talents.

Tairawhiti Computer Hub was committed to helping several students in learning about development of business software or videography. It had conducted an event, Tairawhiti TechXpo, at Te Wananga o Aotearoa on August 8 and 9. At this event, students were educated about the opportunities in the ICT sector. The objective of this event was to offer school students an opportunity to experience the expanding scope of ICT and its products.

The report also stated that the number of companies in computer system design had increased by greater than 3300. It also reported that the ICT sector was investing heavily in research and development, which was up 18.9 percent from last year.

Automation and digital technologies are responsible for major changes across the economy of New Zealand.
