The Liberal government introduced numerous immigration reforms, since it assumed power in November 2015. Citizenship Laws, spousal visa processing times and other procedures related to immigration have been reformed.
Canada Immigration Minister, John McCallum, who is active in promoting immigration, recently announced to bring major reforms which would remove barriers for international students. The new reforms will be announced in the fall.
The reform will improve the processing time for visa application, increase the number of immigrants, funds will be increased for resettlement programs. International students in Canada will also get the status of citizens without any hassles.
On his visit to Brampton, McCallum said, “International students are not treated well in the current system,”
“International students are among the most promising group of immigrants–they are young, can speak English or French and know about Canada. So, we’re going to give them more points under express entry and make it easier for them to become permanent residents.”
Canada’s annual immigration plan for 2016 is to welcome 305000 newcomers by 31st December 2016.
The Government has also announced to revamp the ‘Canada Express Entry Scheme’ to award some additional points to students.
A massive nationwide campaign is being run to seek public opinion on increasing the number of immigrants in Canada.
